COVID-19 Eligiblity

Autumn/Winter 2024 Eligibility

According to NHS England's official guidance

  • Residents in care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 65 years and over
  • Persons aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group (as defined in the Green Book)
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • Household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals (aged 12–64)
  • Carers aged 16–64 and staff working in care homes for older adults

Vaccination was also offered to those in these groups who had not yet received any previous doses, as part of a primary course. The campaign started on 3 October 2024, aligning with the adult flu vaccination rollout. https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/flu-and-covid-19-seasonal-vaccination-programme-autumn-winter-2024-25/

🗓️ Autumn/Winter 2025 Eligibility

The eligibility criteria were significantly narrowed in 2025, reflecting a shift toward targeted vaccination for those at highest risk. According to NHS England and UKHSA

  • Residents in care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 75 years and over
  • Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in Chapter 14a of the Green Book)

This change excludes:

  • Adults aged 65–74 who were previously eligible
  • Those in clinical risk groups who are not immunosuppressed
  • Frontline health and social care workers unless they fall into the above categories https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2025/06/26/whos-eligible-for-the-2025-covid-19-vaccine-or-autumn-booster/

The 2025 campaign begins on 1 October 2025, with vaccine types including Comirnaty KP.2 for adults and Comirnaty LP.8.1 for children.
